Help a Home-Bound Senior

We are living longer. Every day over 5000 Americans turn 65 and last year 66,000 people celebrated their 100th birthday. This means that more and more Nassau County families are caring for an older family member at home-and they need help.

EAC's Respite Program, gives family caregivers a break through its "Neighbor help Neighbor" campaign. Last year, we helped over 200 families take a much-needed break from caregiving.

If you are 21 years of age or older, and enjoy spending time with older folks, listening to their rich history and sharing interests or hobbies, you can help. EAC's Respite Program offers training, professional supervision and a small stipend. In return, we ask for a 4 hour commitment of time, 1 day a week. We carefully match each volunteer with a caregiving family in their community. Respite volunteers go into the home, prepare a light meal, provide companionship and do anything a neighbor might do in the absence of the caregiver.
