YOUTHWORKS PROGRAM
EAC Nassau Learning Center
382 Main Street
Port Washington, NY 11050
(516) 944-2534

Purpose: The YOUTHWORKS Program provides young people, ages 17-21, with an
opportunity to acquire job-related experiences, learn appropriate on-the-job
behaviors and develop positive job attitudes. YOUTHWORKS enables youth to
develop the skills and self-confidence needed to complete a GED and/or gain
competitive employment. The program is designed to serve youth who have a
designated learning disability who have dropped out of high school and are
seeking a GED or who have graduated from high school within the past three
years.

Description: Using individual or small group instruction, YOUTHWORKS
teachers provide young people with the skills necessary to succeed in the
workplace. The program offers instruction in GED preparation, computer and
office skills, employment assessments, and 'soft' job skills to help
individuals succeed, such as developing good work habits and handling on-the-
job conflict. Participants are offered the opportunity for entry-level
employment, paid internships and other monetary incentives. Classes are
offered daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in three locations- Port Washington,
Glen Cove and Manhasset. As participants progress, they are placed as
interns for six weeks for approximately 30 hours per week.

Funding: YOUTHWORKS is funded by the Town of Oyster Bay Consortium.
