Purpose: The Supervised Visitation Program provides safe, supervised visits between children and non-custodial parents. Cases are court-ordered to the program and reviewed regularly by the courts for compliance. EAC has been operating Supervised Visitation since 1989.

Description: Supervised Visitation provides supervision for visits between parents and children when the court feels that unsupervised access may be dangerous and harmful to the child. Families are directed to the program through a court order. After an intake and orientation process, a visiting schedule is determines. Non-custodial parents and their child(ren) generally visit once per week for an hour at EAC facilities. Off-site supervision is also available if directed by the court. Program staff monitor visits and provide reports to the court on the progress of visits.
Parents also receive help in improving parenting skills, learning appropriate play behavior and help in developing positive relationships with their children. Visiting hours are scheduled for evenings and weekends, at a convenient location in Riverhead. There is a sliding scale fee for services which supplements grant income.

Funding: Program funding is provided by the New York State Legislature through the Division of Probation and Correctional Alternatives.
