Purpose: Long Island Safe Havens provides a safe and neutral setting for families in conflict to exchange children for visitation through EAC’s Supervised Visitation Programs. Supervised Visitation is a program that works with the courts to provide a safe and neutral setting for visits for families in conflict.
Program Description: Supervised Visitation provides supervision for visits between parents and children when the court feels that unsupervised access may be dangerous and harmful to the child. Families are directed to the program through a court order. After an intake and orientation process (separate intakes are done for custodial parents and children and non-custodial parents), a visiting schedule is determines. Non-custodial parents and their child(ren) generally visit once per week for an hour. They are scheduled for evenings and weekends, depending on location, at a time convenient for both parties at either Suffolk Supervised Visitation; Grace Episcopal Church, Riverhead; Nassau Supervised Visitation; Hagedorn Family Resource Center, Hempstead.
A Social Worker will work with Safe Exchange families to ensure that a safety plan is in place and that they are receiving all necessary services. Program staff are trained professionals and volunteers with expertise in child welfare matters. On site security staff ensures a safe and neutral setting.
Funding: This project was supported by Grant No. 2005-CW-AX-0021 Awarded by the Office on Violence Against Women, U. S. Department of Justice. |
