Purpose: The Long Island Family Court TASC Programs are intervention and prevention programs which bring services to individuals appearing in Family Court who are substance abusers. TASC identifies the level of addiction, makes a referral to an appropriate treatment agency, and monitors treatment progress for the Court. EAC has operated TASC programs in the metropolitan area since 1978.

Description: The TASC model includes a detailed assessment and development of a written plan designed to address the treatment needs of individuals appearing in Family Court on PINS and Juvenile Delinquency petitions, Family Offense charges or Child Neglect petitions. Respondents participating in TASC must have a current history of substance abuse and be willing to enter treatment for a minimum of 12 months.
Participants are identified by referral from the Court. The treatment plan developed by TASC staff is presented to the Court for its approval. TASC clients are monitored by staff with an expertise in substance abuse, and regular reports are presented to the Court outlining client progress. Persons not complying with all conditions of the TASC treatment plan are brought back to Court for further Court action.

Funding: The program is funded through the New York State Division of Probation and Correctional Alternatives (DPCA).
