Purpose:
The EAC Citizenship Initiative Project assists legal resident non-citizens in obtaining citizenship status. Program services include help with completing and filing the necessary documents for naturalization, assistance in locating English Language classes and referrals for legal support as needed. The EAC Citizenship Initiative Project began in February of 1998.
Description: The EAC Citizenship Initiative Project provides assistance to Nassau County and Suffolk County non-citizens who are trying to become citizens. Intensive outreach is conducted to identify individuals who may be at risk of losing benefits due to their non-citizen status. Program participants receive assistance in compiling and completing the necessary documents to file for naturalization. Related services include advocacy for seniors involved in the naturalization process, and helping to identify English language instructional resources. Services are provided free of charge.
Program staff is expert in negotiating the complex system of rules and regulations which surround the naturalization process. Program clients are also provided with help in accessing community-based services and other resources to meet their needs.
