Little Wishes Your chance to help a
child in foster care

Purpose: The Chance To Advance Program supports children in foster care ages 6 to 21 by providing educational and enrichment opportunities through the help of 1- on -1 mentors. Mentors are committed volunteers in the Long Island community who are dedicated to improving the lives of children in foster care by connecting them with appropriate extracurricular activities, enrichment programs, college coaching and vocational training.
Program Impact:
Research shows that youth in foster care tend to have low self esteem and engage in more negative relationships
Approximately 7 out of 10 youth children in foster care do not complete high school
Youth in foster care are more likely to engage in dangerous or criminal behavior
Program Outcomes:
Research has shown that intervention at this age can bring meaningful changes in the lives of children regarding their positive outlook and behavior.
Children with mentors are more likely to complete their education and go on to be productive citizens.
Children with mentors tend to be less involved in substance abuse
Research shows that mentoring youth appears to reduce their incidence of negative behavior
Funding: Funding for the Chance To Advance Program and tuition assistance is supported by community, state, and federal grant funding. Individual donations help to support Little Wishes, a fund for youth in foster care with specific activities they wish to pursue.

Little Wishes
Little Wishes are specific extracurricular activities and enrichment programs in the area that Chance To Advance Participants wish to take. Many of these activities and classes are taken for granted by people who do not grow up in the Child Welfare System because they are expected for their future success. Children in foster care can only hope and dream that they will be given the same advantages to succeed in life like any other child.
