Purpose: The Brooklyn Bridge TASC Program is an alternative -to-incarceration operating in Kings County Criminal Court for jail bound non-violent misdemeanant offenders and MICA-classified offenders whose substance abuse is related to their criminal activity. Brooklyn Bridge TASC also works with offenders charged in Criminal Court with domestic violence. TASC diverts these offenders out of the criminal justice system and into the drug treatment and mental health systems in cases where the defendant is facing local incarceration as a result of the commission of a crime.

Description: The TASC model includes assessment of an offender's addiction, a determination of the most appropriate treatment placement, referral to treatment and monitoring for the courts.TASC does not accept offenders with a history of inappropriate or illegal sexual acts, arson or severe mental illness. Offenders must have a current history of substance abuse and be willing to enter and complete treatment through short or long-term residential or out-patient programs for a minimum of one year.
Potential participants are identified by referral from the Court, a Defense Attorney, the District Attorney, Probation Officer, or a Treatment Program.

Funding: Funding for the Brooklyn Bridge TASC Program is provided by the New York City Council.
