Purpose: The purpose of the Anger Management Program is to promote responsible behavior in individuals in need of modifying their actions precipitated by anger. Used as a sentencing alternative by the Courts, the Anger Management Program offers intervention with individuals who have responded with anger resulting in conflict-related offenses. Self referrals are also accepted and encouraged. The program serves the courts in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and Nassau County.

Description:  The Anger Management Program is an education and behavior modification program for individuals with minimal or no prior conflict-related offenses. A typical example would be “road rage behavior” which may lead to law enforcement intervention. Referrals to the program are made directly by presiding judges or by the individuals themselves who believe they have an anger issue. Offenders or self referred individuals are required to participate in the program's one-day class which examines the motivation for anger and hostility, legal consequences of continued aggressive behavior, and modeling of alternative ways of responding to conflict.
The program’s participants also meet with social workers who prepare an assessment based on their needs to determine if additional interventions or services are necessary. A $125.00 fee is charged to offset expenses. A sliding scale is offered where appropriate. Classes are held on Saturdays at locations in each jurisdiction.

Funding: The program receives funding through the New York City Council, supplemented by client fees.
