On Sunday, July 22, 2012 the Long Island Chapter of The Guardians of the Children, a national biker organization dedicated to protecting victims of child abuse, hosted their Annual Poker Run that benefited EAC.
This year’s Poker Run kicked off at the Child Advocacy Center at 84 Wheeler Road in Central Islip. The Run concluded at Gator Blue Bar & Grill at 148 Carleton Avenue in East Islip, with prizes, music, food and fun for all.
Proceeds from this year’s Poker Run will help purchase school supplies for the children who visit the EAC Suffolk County Child Advocacy Center At The Pat & Mary Bagnato Place for Kids in Central Islip. The Center provides a safe, neutral and child-oriented environment for child abuse victims so that all necessary medical examinations and interviews can be done at one location. In addition, the Center serves as a resource for the children and their families to connect with community-based services, including therapy, help in meeting medical needs, and assistance with financial problems.
“The Guardians became involved with the Center years ago”, said Andrea Ramos-Topper, EAC Regional Director of Children’s Services. “Their annual bike event has raised thousands of dollars, and we are so very grateful for their generosity and kindness”.
