HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

FEATURED STORY:

“I can’t find the words to tell you how thankful the kids and I are for the HEAP Program” -M.P.

For many people cold winters can be an extremely stressful time.  Skyrocketing energy prices are causing financial burden to low income households and families are faced with choosing between food, medicine and keeping warm.

The EAC Network Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) assists low income Nassau County households meet the high costs of home energy and utility expenses.  The program provides financial assistance to eligible families who fall within the programs income guidelines. Households interested in energy assistance must complete an application, submit required documentation and be interviewed by a worker to determine eligibility.  Eligible households that pay directly for heat may receive benefits ranging from $300.00 to $800.00.  Both homeowners and renters may apply for assistance.  The program also offers assistance to homeowners with heating equipment repair and replacement.  The program opens each year on November 1st and continues, pending funding, through May 15th.

*Recently, a HEAP client received winter coats from an EAC Network coat drive, writing the following in a note of thanks:

“Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you giving me the coats. This helps me a lot, because I am looking for full time work. These coats help me to look good going on interviews. God bless you. Thanks again. I wish there were more people like you. Since I have been coming you’ve helped me – always so sweet, helpful and so polite. I want to wish you and your family all the best, but most of all a lifetime of good health & happiness for you all.” – R.R., a client of HEAP, who also received donated winter coats through EAC.
