In Nassau County: PROJECT SUPPORT (EIP)In Suffolk County: EDUCATION, REHABILITATION AND SUPPORT ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM (ERASE)

FEATURED STORY: When Steven first came into the ERASE Program, he had so much anger towards his ex-wife, he refused to pay her child support and owed $50,000 in back payments. By attending the ERASE Program, Steven was able to look at himself and reflect on his negative behavior.  He realized how selfish it was to neglect the financial needs of his children because of the animosity he felt toward his ex-wife.  The day before Steven’s adjournment date, he called the ERASE staff thanking us for helping him understand the importance of having both parents work together for the emotional and financial support of the children. Steven went to Court the next day and handed the custodial parent a check for $50,000.  Since then, Steven has been current on all child support payments.

The EAC Child Support Enforcement Programs provide after-court interviews to non-custodial parents on their newly ordered child support from Family Court. During the interview, profile information is collected and rights and responsibilities are explained before the parent leaves the Court.

Our staff monitors payments for the first six weeks of the effective date of the court order. If the parent is not in compliance, a violation request is sent to the Child Support Enforcement Bureau for further court action.

The programs also offer a free monthly seminar on a volunteer basis. This seminar is facilitated by an attorney who explains the legal rights and responsibilities of non-custodial parents.
